Betty White..When most of us picture her, we think of a spunky, sassy, and energetic senior who really knows how to take aging to the next level!

Instead of ’aging gracefully,’ Betty White makes it look like the ride of your life! So, how does she do it?  After all, she’s not exercising 24/7 or touting the virtues of the latest raw food diet. In fact, Betty White’s success tips are much simpler than you may think.

Take the following thoughts from Betty White to create a vibrant, fulfilling life at any age!

Stay Active!

Whether you’re needing occasional help at home from a homecare professional or have the energy of Betty herself, the important thing is to remain active. Forward motion encourages more forward motion, while a lethargic, sedentary lifestyle will sap your energy, slow your metabolism, and even lead to muscle tissue breakdown. Do what you can with what you’ve got. If you can’t perform all your household chores, that’s ok. Ask yourself what you can do. Maybe you are able to walk the dog or meet up with a few friends for a day at the park. Whatever it is, stay active!

When Betty White was asked what she does for exercise, her response was, “I have a two-story house and a bad memory!” Priceless. The underlying message here is to work your fitness routine into your everyday life.

Know Who You Are!

The writers of the Hot in Cleveland show wanted Betty White to smoke marijuana in one of the episodes, but Betty said, “No way.” When asked about this decision in an interview, she said, “I don’t think dope is funny or fun or whatever.” Although it may have appealed to some of the viewers of the show, the writers had to back down. She knows who she is and what she believes in. Betty White is also unbending about her love for animals and often speaks out on animal cruelty. Use that as inspiration to take your own stand.

Whether it’s speaking out on an issue you’re passionate about or rolling up your sleeves to lend a hand in the community, making a difference is good for your health for a number of reasons. First, you’re a part of something greater than yourself, your staying mentally active and sharp, and finally, you’re continuing to grow as a person. These things have no age limits.

Betty is also a wonder advocate for AARP , and has supported the Morris Animal Foundation for over 40 years! She knows that having a passion and purpose in your life keeps you young!

Let Go of the Past and Other’s Opinions – Be a Duck!

Have you ever heard the saying, “Let things roll off of you like water off of a ducks back?” That’s the name of the game for healthy emotions. Accept yourself for who you are and don’t put too much weight on the opinions of others. You may have flaws and you may have made mistakes in your life, but who hasn’t? As we get older, we could look back with regret at missed opportunities or failures, but why? If you are going to experience optimum health and live your best life now, you’re going to have to come to terms with your past. Today is a new day, so embrace it!

Laugh at Yourself!

Even if you’re getting to the point where skilled nursing care may be an option, the worst thing to do is let it get you down. Help at home with light chores, personal care, and  cooking is not the end of the world. Learning to laugh at yourself can be a wonderful way to deal with stress, and laughter is proven to lower your blood pressure and provide a sense of well being.

The last time Betty White was on The Late Show, she presented a list of “How to Live a Long and Happy Life.” Two of her most memorable tips were, “Avoid Tweeting photos of your private parts,” and “Try not to die.”

Betty White certainly has a fun-loving attitude, no matter what she’s doing, and why not? Life should be fun!
